Southwick Emergency Management Agency
Serving Southwick, Massachusetts

Auxiliary Police

This volunteer organization of dedicated individuals was founded on November 17, 1958 by Civil Defense Director Merwin Tuttle, James T. Curran and Revell H. Emmonds.  Originally known as the Southwick Civil Defense Auxiliary Police, the Southwick Auxiliary Police continues to operate today at no cost to the Town of Southwick.

Throughout the history of the Auxiliary Police, these volunteers have given their time to do traffic duty at the Southwick carnival and at the Holyoke St. Patrick's Day Parade. They have even used their own cars to patrol around the schools at Halloween time.  In more recent times they have provided additional police presence at Emergency Management drills and at the Southwick MX338 AMA Motocross Nationals.

The members are reserve intermittent academy trained by the MPTC (Municipal Police Training Committee) at the Western Massachusetts Regional Police Academy in Feeding Hills, Massachusetts.  The Auxiliary Police are under the Southwick Emergency Management Agency.  When activated, the Auxiliary Police report directly to the Chief of Police with full police powers.
